How we track every box
Every box is sealed, temperature-checked and logged.
What actually moves on a delivery, and the public log where every trip is recorded.
What actually moves
One sealed box, one logged run.
The box leaves the cafeteria closed and arrives closed. Everything the log knows about a run is written on the outside.
The delivery log
Every delivery, on the public record.
Every box we move is listed on the delivery log: the date, how much it weighed and whether it has been checked. Anyone can sort it, filter it and check our work. Names, schools and receiving sites are kept off the public record.
The fine print
How the temperature loggers work.
Every box should carry a temperature record from packing to handoff, so a food bank can trust what we bring and a school can show exactly what left its building. NYC health rules require that record.11
We plan to share about three temperature loggers across all routes, instead of one in every box. A box that travels without a logger has no temperature record, and the log will say so. We had planned to estimate those trips from past data, but that is not possible until real trips have been logged. The boxes do not track location.
Want to build a logger yourself? The parts list and diagram are on the Getting started page.
